Enriching clinical experience through high quality, relevant and evidence based education

Management of Chronic Tendinopathy and Heel Pain Ankle pain

If you have never used shockwave therapy before, would like to learn more why to use and how to use, then this lecture is for you!

Shockwave is a clinically proven treatment for chronic soft tissue injuries. A shockwave is a sound wave that passes through the body and is not an electrical pulse. Shockwave initiates a pro-inflammatory response in the treated tissues. Multiple Studies (including RCTs) has shown an improvement rate of 60 – 80 % improvement in chronic conditions that have not responded to conservative management. Reported side effects are minimal and it has been approved by NICE guidelines as effective treatment for refractory conditions such as plantar fasciitis, greater trochanteric pain syndrome and calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder.

Presented by Ben, this evening lecture will explore the application of shockwave therapy in the current management of chronic tendinopathy and plantar heel pain. Clinical application in common pathologies (Achilles, Patellar, Gluteal, Tennis Elbow) and plantar heel pain will be discussed, along with the latest evidence on shockwave mechanisms and effectiveness.

Practical experience will be gained in the use and application of shockwave using latest equipment.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Overview of Shockwave Therapy (Mechanisms, Indications and Contra-indications)
  2. Practical application and demonstration of shockwave therapy equipment
  3. Clinical reasoning in the management of chronic tendinopathy (Achilles, Patellar, gluteal, tennis elbow) and plantar heel pain.
  4. Explore effectiveness and current evidence of shockwave and how to integrate into usual therapy management and loading programs.
