Level 1 Vestibular Course

Specifically designed to assist physical therapists in private practice understand the importance of the vestibular system, vestibular anatomy, and how to assess and identify dysfunction in the vestibular apparatus. A specific focus is on understanding and treating BPPV.

This customised course will be presented by Neurological Specialist Physiotherapist Katrina Williams. Participants will learn how to assess and appropriately manage the most common presentation; benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. There will be sufficient time for supervised practice and case studies will be used throughout to demonstrate the clinical relevance of each section of information presented.

Course content

Priority areas covered will include;

• Neuro-anatomy 
• Pathophysiology of basic peripheral vestibular with a focus on recognising non-BPPV Episodic Vertigo for onward referral
• Assessment strategies for the dizzy patient (case-based approach)
• Oculomotor examination theory and practise 
• BPPV physiology and pathology – signs and symptoms 
• BPPV assessment strategies and observation competency & practise 
• BPPV treatment strategy and competency & practise
• Case-based treatment application

The course is heavily centred around practical, hands-on learning.
