This module examines the common patterns of dysfunctional posturo-movement control in the pelvic/hip girdle and the lower spine – and how these result in common patterns of joint and myofascial dysfunction which underpin lower quadrant pain disorders. Simple posturo-movement assessment points the way to specific joint and myofascial assessment - and an ensuing treatment approach which involves tailored, complimentary manual and movement therapy for restoring joint and neuro-myo-fascial function in the lumbo-pelvic–hip region. The Fundamental Patterns of the axis and pelvis will be introduced. These basic motor patterns are usually ‘missing in action’ in lumbo-pelvic pain populations. The exercise therapy in this module will involve their correct re-establishment and re-integration into functional patterns of movement and various therapeutic exercises which serve to improve the integrated function between breathing and posturo-movement control of the trunk, and control of the pelvis/hips. The patient is assisted in self-care - to move out of pain and gain greater freedom of movement.
An introductory evening lecture before the workshop commences provides a broad over-view of the approach.
